VIDAR TO SHOWCASE AN ENHANCED SIERRA PLUS FILM DIGITIZER AT RSNA 2008
An Affordable Solution for Teleradiology and Low-volume Digitizing
Herndon, VA — VIDAR Systems Corporation, a leader in medical imaging technology will showcase an enhanced SIERRA plus film digitizer at the annual RSNA trade show and conference this fall in Chicago, IL. The American College of Radiology compliant SIERRA plus is the digitizer of choice for teleradiology applications and facilities that have a low volume of medical films to digitize. Because of its compact size and price point, the SIERRA is affordable for a variety of healthcare settings.
“In this era of market uncertainty coupled with the impact that the DRA has had on outpatient and imaging centers, many will put off major capitol expenditures for digital equipment. However, the need to get images into digital format still exists. We want to provide the market with an affordable solution to achieve digital imaging and the SIERRA plus meets that need,” said Mary Harp, Director, Film Digitizer Business Line.
Light weight, combined with its small size — about that of a one-panel light box — makes the wall-mountable SIERRA plus ideal for crowded, low volume radiology offices, imaging centers, and hospitals where space is often at a premium. It also means that the SIERRA plus can be deployed in a number of other settings where quick access to high-quality electronic images would enhance patient care, such as the emergency department, intensive and coronary care units, as well as teaching hospitals and alternate care settings. Because the product features VIDAR’s next-generation proprietary High Definition CCD technology and Automatic Digitizer Calibration, it needs virtually no maintenance or calibration, saving $2,000 annually.
The image quality is clinically proven by several studies that show that there is no difference between images digitized with VIDAR’s CCD digitizers and competitors’ laser digitizers. The new featured SIERRA plus will be available at the end of the 1st Quarter of 2009. New enhancements will include an LED light source for improved reliability and lower total cost of ownership; a USB 2 interface for ease of integration; and RoHS compliance with European mandates and worldwide concern over hazardous substances.
